Brilyana: Raveneye, we need llamas.

tglassy: Steven King said you have to write half a million words before you write anything worth reading. I found the best way to get myself past that first book was to give myself permission to write a crappy story.

Alatariel: Same. And don't write your number one passion project first. Write throw away novels, have them critiqued, have writers beta read them, and then keep writing.

tglassy: I don't entirely disagree, but there is a level of caution there. If you never feel you're ready to write your passion project, you'll never write it.

tglassy: I've got a friend who has this one story idea I've worked on with him, and he always says he doesn't want it to be his first project, because he wants to get better first. Well, it's been over ten years, now, and no other projects have been written.

molmstead0002: hey there, I used to visit this place and submit before it went down, I am glad to see it is back, I was wondering if my old stuff is still here somewhere?

Brilyana: This is a different forum. All old stuff is not here. Raveneye or one of the other founders may know if the information from before got saved.
Oct 16, 2020 21:21:04 GMT -6
Alatariel: As far as I know, no stories were saved. Those are personal and we only saved things like the rules of the forum and resources.

Alatariel: tglassy yea, I hear that, but also if you do start your passion project before you're ready (like I did), be ready for mondo revisions. Like whole rewrites and huge changes to both characters and plot.

Alatariel: My original from 10 years ago is nothing like what I'm writing now. I did take a long break from it, practiced other things, learned a ton from LF and contests and listening to podcasts/reading books. Then jumped back in with a much more succinct plot.

Alatariel: So I guess sometimes you know when you're ready, but even when you're not just be prepared for the outcome to not be good and maybe not even salvageable.

molmstead0002: ok I will ask Raveneye I remember her, thanks

RAVENEYE: Back from vacay. It was pretty and ... quiet. It was more like a foodcation. Ate so effing much I got sick. Time to go jogging. So happy to be home. How have y'all been the past 4 days?

Alatariel: I love foodcations.
