Started the year finishing BioShock. Now in BioShock 2, Star Wars: Squadrons, Call of the Sea - my first next (now current) generation game - with once in a while Portal 2 on Steam with my brother. Since I received my new Xbox Series X on January 30th for my generational upgrade, I thought of recording single player games. Using my new custom PC (first one), the plan is to edit videos analyzing writing as a scene progresses a narrative, or develops a character. Or as Doublejay09 suggested, to analyze writing in scenes that cause a game to be famous, iconic, emotional, or grand! Oooh! That sounds like an excellent exercise for game-builders.

Oooh! That sounds like an excellent exercise for game-builders. Did not consider that! My idea is to show players the literary, or "interactive" quality, of videogames. Perform analysis like for an essay. Heck I may do that as well.

Finished Call of the Sea! Sweet indie game for my Xbox Series X. Third game for the year. It has some nice writing, an intriguing if somewhat conventional (to me) plot and progressing narrative.

Ugh, we got an Oculus 2 about a month ago. I'm having too much fun with it. We got it "for research" b/c I'm supposed to be able to use it to tour historical places for my novel writing, but has that happened???
Nope.
What have I played in the meantime?
The Room VR. Finished it in three days. Loved it. Now I'm about to finish Myst VR. That old game converted beautifully for virtual reality. I need a shooter game next, but I'm afraid of injuring myself.

I've always wanted to dive into the Fallout series but have always held back because I have a deadly fear of insects. Why do game devs love giant insects? What happened to good ol' slimes or goblins or skeletons?
But I've finally bought New Vegas and downloaded a mod that replaces all in-game insects with RAD-ghouls. Been having a blast wandering the Mojave (although I think the gameplay got broken by the sudden inclusion of RAD-ghouls. I got whooped in the first fetch quest )

I put too many writing projects on my plate and needed to sideline it. Besides, one of my recordings didn't record sound. Like.. .reaallly?
Go play Slime Rancher!
That doesnt exactly help you deal with the fear, but sure sounds fun, haha.

Oh no, I feel you. Video-related mishaps are always terrible. I remember I had to record a video for a college assignment once and forgot to press "Start" Slime Rancher looks adorable! Will try and pick it up on Steam when I have some spare cash lying around.

I did the same process and this one.. just didn't go through. I will need to redo it. Thankfully its an introductory cinematic only.
Its a cute game. My brother loves it. The sequel was announced at E3.

Soooo, I finished Myst on the Occulus, and now I've discovered Vader Immortal. I'm just saying, having Darth Vader walk up to you, get in your face, and demand you do what you're told is TOTALLY INTIMIDATING! And AWESOME! I literally drew back and couldn't look the guy in the mask. "Vader, you're in my bubble. But I'll do what you say, b/c you're tall and dark and scary! Yes, master, I obey!"
Each story installment is brief, each taking about 30 mins to play through. Finished parts 1 and 2 and will play part 3 this week. Running from a giant Rankor with 4 arms is terrifying, by the way. Mainly b/c you can't really run--even though you REALLY want to duck and run and hide under your couch. You have to stay inside your Guardian circle or the Occulus gets mad at you. Anyway, the game is really well done.
The best part is the Lightsaber Dojo. Randomly generated arena fighting where you climb ranks by kicking ass with lightsaber and throwing stuff with the force. Aaaaaaahhhh! I'm totally geeking out here. I think Vader Immortal 3 comes with blaster training and grenades as well. So the Dojo honestly, is the best part of the game, and it's a great workout too. Tired of jogging the same route like a hamster in a wheel? Play the Dojo.

Bawled my eyes out finishing The Walking Dead: The Final Season early this morning. Few games make me cry this much.. make me emotional. Halo 3, Halo 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Life is Strange, maybe Uncharted 4, others. A strong conclusion to Clementine's great story with AJ. I skipped Season 3 to play this. Found out that one is not as good and Clem is not the lead character.
8, maybe 8.5/10.

Recently finished (PS5): 1. The Pathless (9.5/10). Loooved the exploration of this game, the mechanics, and the boss fights. Same developers as Journey and Abzu (also games I enjoyed), although it's a little different (in a good way) from their normal MO with a few actual fights in it.
2. Lost Ember (8/10). Mechanics were maybe a little bit clunky, but not horrible. The world was pretty (even with its more simple graphics) and, while I wasn't sure about the story at first, I got very invested and emotional by the end.
3. The Last Campfire (8/10). Puzzle game with cute characters, good mechanics, and a pretty and fairly diverse world to explore.
4. Concrete Genie (9/10). I flippin' loved how creative and colorful this game was. It's so different from anything I've played, even down to some of its graphics... kind of reminded me of claymation in the cut scenes and the vibe of Coraline.
Currently playing (PS5): 1. Elder Scrolls Online when I don't have other games to play. I like that it's not a very demanding game to pick up when I have down time.
2. Code Vein (7.5/10). Basically a Souls-game and anime had a baby; it has lots of Souls-genre inspiration and elements, except I think it's a good deal easier to play and more forgiving (which is welcomed). Story is a bit convoluted and the cut scenes can be terribly long (I skipped a number of them), but the gameplay itself is fun and there are many different builds you can experiment with and switch between.
3. Mass Effect trilogy remaster (9/10). On the first game, but this is my 2nd playthrough of this trilogy. Always a pleasure.
4. Destiny 2... Another down-time game I come back to sometimes because I like the game mechanics. Mostly play for PvP Crucible when I boot this up.

Lord help me, my precious niece talked me into downloading Fortnite. She's 12 and becoming a really good gamer and the fact that she wanted to play with her old aunt was really cool, so I couldn't say no. So I've been practicing. So I don't completely embarrass myself when she and I team up. So she isn't ashamed of how badly I play. That would be sad.
Couple days ago, I won my first solo match, which made me feel better. Not hard because I'm old and patient and can wait out the youngsters who rush into battle. Hehe.
I can do this. For her sake, I can do this.
