Ack...so many people with so many ideas already, and I have.... NOTHING....  Don't worry, it's still early. I didn't have my legends contest idea until two days before the deadline. And that was with an extension! I tend to overthink, though. So this time no overthinking, just gonna jump on the first half-thought I have and force it into a story. RAVENEYE the upped word count was done for purely selfish reasons  because it's SO hard for me to write a story shorter than 3k. Even that will be hard. But it must be done! Can't burn out the voters with 7k story entries, as much as I want to write a story that's 7k sometimes. lol |

The only reason I didn't have longer story word limits in last year's contest was the crit workload. But since the first year was a success and folks kept competing, maybe it's time for meatier story lengths. When we had a certain large number of competitors, like 10 or 12 or something, didn't we break up the voting/critting into odd/even? Like if one's entry was #1, you had to vote on just the even number entries? That's ringing a bell. It would be good to one day have that many entries again. |

I've always wanted to do a Halloween Themed one shot. 3k will be a challenge but I'll give it a go.
Just a word in advance I'm pretty new in the horror writing department. Most of the stuff I've done are fantasy related.

You can talk to people about it who aren't on the site. I always talk to my husband about all my stories, including contest pieces. He reads them too, just to make sure they aren't too weird or stupid.  He doesn't edit though. |

Oh good grief, I'm halfway through the word count, and the story isn't to the halfway point yet. I gonna have to cut cut cut. Just finish the draft and see what mess I end up with.

I tried to see what I could come up with. I've learned as a writer, know your target audiance, horror does well here, even though it's not a requirement. Well one look at a horror,nothing,one at non-horror, almost nothing. Will try tomorrow.

Whoa, I got an idea and I really like it! This doesn't happen often at all. I even have the whole plot progression in mind for once; it just came along with the idea. Usually my stories start with a concept and one or two events in mind and the rest hazy. I still have plenty of specifics left open, so there'll be enough fun figuring things out as I go along.
Oh yeah, and it's inspired by a remarkable dream I actually had once—

Love that it was inspired by a dream you had! My dreams have been SO vivid lately but also super random. It would be like reading an acid trip.  |
