We've been waiting for this contest all year, folks.
It's Legends time! For those of you new to LegendFire, the Legends Contest is our big one. All three categories -- fiction, nonfiction, and poetry -- with a cash prize for first place in each category (albeit meager). There are $30 up for grabs, so warm up those typing fingers and get ready to write like mad.GENERAL RULES You may enter as many divisions as you like, or only one if you prefer. Contestants may submit one story, one essay, and one poem. Because nonfiction has received the least attention during past Legends Contests, there must be a minimum of two nonfiction entries for the nonfiction division to be considered an active part of this contest.
THE DARK Enthrall your readers with tales and poems of fear of the dark, explorations of the dark side of the moon, forays into dark magic, and keeping loved ones "in the dark." Let your imagination float down lightless streams into unseen realms and dangers.CONTEST SCHEDULE

Fiction and possibly Poetry. I hope it won't be a problem if I withdraw my hat from either one prior to the deadline since it's going to be dependent on the cooperation of my often fickle muse?

Sign me up for Fiction and Poetry, please! May have to drop one or the other, but this prompt is too good to not get the cells firing on both.

Put me down for fiction for sure, I already have two ideas but not sure which one to do. 2,500 words is gonna be a challenge. I'm definitely a long form writer.
Might do poetry too...

I'd like to sign up for all three. Don't know how many I'll actually get to. I've made a list of 14 dark-related ideas and don't know which ones I should go with. For some of them, there's flexibility as to whether they should be the fiction, poetry, or nonfiction entry, which makes it even more confusing.

ADD!
ScienceGirl proposed an addition to the 1st Place prize. Instead of just an edit of 3500 words of your choice, she is adding "a simple cover and simple e-book format of a short story, essay, or collection of poetry up to 3500 words."
All that would remain for the winner of this prize is to upload the files to a self-publisher of your choice.

Woot. I just finished the first draft of my fiction entry. Can't figure out a title though.
How is everyone else doing?

I'm in the very unusual position of having a concept I like and not knowing whether it should be the poem or the story.

Totally blank on all counts. Hopefully inspiration will strike before I enter Panic Mode.

I'm in the very unusual position of having a concept I like and not knowing whether it should be the poem or the story. LOL! That sounds tough. I bet the results are fantastic. Totally blank on all counts. Hopefully inspiration will strike before I enter Panic Mode. Ugh. This struck me just as I posted the prompt. In the days leading up to the contest I thought I had a couple of cool ideas, but when it came to the actually contest period, my brain went totally blank and I had to start from scratch. Kinda panicked there for a bit. I thought maybe a darkness monster siphoned off my imagination. The story that finally leaked out was totally unplanned. The most nebulous idea ever, a bit of free time, and voila, I have no idea what I have on my hands, but I like it. Though, now, I have no idea what poem to write. Back to the drawing board.

I've got one line of a poem in my brain and another story inspired by a song lol Think I'm gonna make more headway on the poem than the story right off the bat. All those long, boring OT hours on account of our equipment not working properly are perfect for brainstorming
