Well. I found it. I'm 1,800 words in. And I'm not even half way done, lol. I like the story, it's going quickly, but it's going to be WAY too long. I hope I can get through the rest of it tonight, and then I can spend tomorrow afternoon editing it down. I may have to cut a LOT of it to get it within 2,500 words.
Here's to hoping I can make it.

Ok. I did it. That was amazing. 3,187 words in two hours. And I really like it.
But now I have to take a knife to it and chop chop chop until I find 687 words to eliminate, lol. I hope it's cohesive by that point.
Edit: Gah. First edit, and I got it down to 2,811. Gotta chop another 311 words somewhere. Hmm. Gonna have to get more cruel. But I got this!

You got this! I actually surprised myself by being under 2500, which is not normal for me. LOL I've edited mine a few times already - twice today. I need to step away from it for a while though. It's like painting on canvas - if I try to tweak it too much, I'll just make it worse. I need to step away, take a break and look at it from a distance. Can't wait to read your story! (Even if I won't know which one yours is)

I am probably gonna have to drop from fiction at this point. My brain came through on the poem, and while I love the fiction concept I got, I don't feel like I can pull it together into contest quality by Monday. Gonna finish editing the poem tomorrow so I have one good thing to submit and then try the story again.
Holding out for a hero! Holding out for a hero 'till Monday night, but also a heads-up that I may crash and burn on fiction LOL

Well, I did it. I got it to 2,496, lol. I'll need to read it over tomorrow to edit a few more times, but all in all, I'm very happy with the story. I've actually been writing a lot, lately, though most of it has been for DND. So I guess I have been practicing. But still, this took me about 3 hours to put together. Makes me wonder what I could have been doing the entire summer when I was on Unemployment and didn't have a day job, lol. I start a day job on Monday, btw. Post Office. No more free time for me!
Though, I always seem to write more when I don't have time to write.

As nice as having time to write is, having a job is better. Congrats on your new job and completing the story.

I still have all day tomorrow (Monday) too, right? Maybe by some miracle I might get something done. Maybe.

Sounds like this contest has been a challenge all around. Kudos to all of you for sticking with it and grinding something out. 24 HOURS LEFT TO WRITE!

I've written it all down! I'm a lot happier with this story than before. Tomorrow I'll go through and edit. It sure needs editing. One problem with my habit of writing out of order is I'll explain something, but later I write a part that precedes it and explain the same thing there, so I have to check for repetitiveness.

For me the challenge was the prompt, a rather nebulous phrase yet one with a wide interpretation, which for me allowed a lot of flexibility in the story.

Thanks and it did, now was I able to create a story readers will like, that’s been my Achilles Heal in contests, which has very little to do with the prompt. I’m a nervous wreck once I enter our contests.

Ok. OK. I'm really liking this story. Gonna get the draft done and probably send it just in the nick of time. Won't have time to edit, so it'll technically be a rough draft BUT I'm doing my best with it. And I like it so...gonna get it done. I have no idea the genre....it's bendy and weird. And that's the fun part about it

Got mine submitted! For sure not gonna make the fiction category, but I managed to produce a poem that I'm happy with. Also I highly recommend double-triple-quardruple checking your BBCode before you submit it because as per usual, it's a tricky bugger to manage. I had to send RAVENEYE two different versions because the first one looked okay but then added all sorts of weirdness when I turned my back on it. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! It's the final push! You can do it!
