SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED!
Welcome to LegendFire’s first REBOOT contest! We are so excited to bring this competition to you, our faithful members. For those of you who have participated in our contests in the past, you may remember how all this works. For you new Legendfirians, and for the rest of us who need a reminder, the details are outlined below. (Please send questions to Raveneye, or ask them below.)
To test the waters on our new forum, our first contest will feature short fiction on a single theme.
YOUR THEME: RISE FROM RUIN
CONTEST SCHEDULE Submissions open: December 4 Submissions close, voting begins: December 18, 11:59 pm, US Central Voting closes, winners announced: January 3 CONTEST BASICS One story only, genre of your choice
Word limit: 2,500 (Note: I am using THIS WORD COUNTER to ensure entries do not exceed the limit.)
Your story must be unique, written specifically for this contest. You may not submit a story you have already been working on or wrote in the past. Nor will we accept fan fiction for this particular contest.
Do NOT disclose which entry is yours.
Template (Required. Copy, paste, fill out, and include with your submission):Title: Genre: Word Count:SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY Once you have completed your entry, send it to me (Raveneye) via Private Message.
Format your entry in the PM the way you wish it to appear on the site. You may use different fonts and weights. If you want your title centered, send it to me centered. Italicize the words you want italicized. I will do my best to keep the appearance and format identical. Preview your entry before submitting it. (Click the "BB Code" tab, then click back to the "Preview" tab to see if formatting messes up. Then fix.)
IMPORTANT NOTE: The ProBoards private message system does NOT allow us to edit our PMs. If you see a problem with an entry you’ve submitted to me, you may resend it up to the moment I post it live for judging. THIS FIRST CONTEST IS EXPERIMENTAL: I have no idea what formatting issues the PM system will cause.
I will not edit mistakes, typos, or for readability.
Each entry will be posted anonymously in the Fiction forum. CONTEST JUDGING Voting is open to all Legendfirians! Every contestant is REQUIRED to vote
Unless excused for serious reasons, you must vote on all entries. You will receive reminders of this requirement 1 week, 3 days, and 1 day prior to the end of the voting period. If you do not vote on ALL entries, your entry will be disqualified.
Please follow these steps: 1. Judge each entry according to the following questions. Answer them as thoroughly as possible. Two sentences minimum per question. The goal is to help the author improve their craft. NOTE: voters who leave one-liner critiques to justify their vote will receive warnings according to our warning system.
Technical writing elements: Which elements were technically sound in this entry? What still needs work? (Consider things like spelling/punctuation/grammar, coherence, plotting, story arc, etc.)
Artistic writing elements: What appealed to me in this entry? What might benefit from revision? (Consider things like how engaging the story is, appropriate word choice, metaphor, imagery, character development, uniqueness, etc.)
Prompt: How well does this entry relate to the prompt?
2. Assign each area a numerical value: Rate each entry from 1 to 5, with five being the most favorable.
3. Add your scores and divide by 3 to get an average score. For example: 3.5 + 3 + 4 = 3.5 (The contest host will collect all the averaged scores for each entry and tally the overall average to determine the winners.)
You may vote for yourself to maintain your anonymity. This vote will not count toward the final score.
All entries must have the same number of votes for each vote to count. For example, if over half the entries receive 7 votes, we will set the final vote requirement to 7 votes per entry. WINNERS!

I'm in. Maybe a little worried about the voting but I'll do my best. You got this. It sounds complicated, but really it boils down to "What worked, what didn't," and a little basic math.

So, I love the entry I wrote this weekend. I just need a title. Ideas for the title are not cooperating...

So soon, Raveneye...?????
My muse has abandoned me and is still on her long weekend jaunt to....who knows where? (Hopefully, she took her mask and is maintaining social distancing)
May have to withdraw my miserable self from this one.

It usually takes me days to come up with something. And by then, I'm sweating. You got this. Ten days still to toss something out.

I know the rules state a maximum number word limit, but is there a minimum? I realize a 25-word story wouldn't cut it, but what would be considered a reasonable minimum?
