This post doesn't quite fit the topic, but I'm not sure where else to put it. The Public Domain Review (one of my favourite websites ever) recently put out an essay - Chaos Bewitched: Moby-Dick and AI
The author basically tries to use DALL-E to paint the inscrutable painting in Moby Dick. It's a bit of a lengthy read, but I thought it was a fun way to use AI and the philosophical ideas that underpin the whole experiment was pretty interesting.

I was laughing with such delight by the end. Nailed that Melvillian style and made it so cute and humorous. I thought the author would stop at the flukes but kept going until ... a heart? I'm dying here. I think the author broke Dall-E. The AI handed that mass of purple prose to process over and over again, until it wore out. Fine, here's a white heart on a black background. Screw you, human.

Figured this would be helpful, given the heat this aroused (and which I don't want to see reignite). During the Nebula Conference, AI and its impact today and in the future was one of the panel topics. One of the speakers linked us to this post defining the different sorts of AIs, which I found informative. Maybe dispels some of the fear around the topic? Siri is an AI, your car (if newer) is an AI, etc. These forward-thinking sci-fi and real-science writers were not worried that AI would take over the planet any time soon, or displace authors as the better storytellers. They were extremely knowledgeable in the field, so I'm going to trust their judgement and not freak out over it anymore. Oh, yeah, here's the link to the article: adeenamignogna.com/you-dont-need-fancy-degree-to-understand-ai/
