Refrain for Life ( A reverse poem)
Wishing I could videotape the sun’s rays.
I contemplate the scales of my life.
Children married, three grandchildren to spoil.
My seventh book published; a screenplay is now being written.
Friends, that’s the kicker.
Can’t say that I have any.
Many tell me they are.
Some have a golden tongue.
All hope the Midas touch graces their wallets.
People don’t realize that the wealth of nature is at their disposal.
The moon is full, like life should be.
The sun takes a rest every day; humanity should to.
Do they dream like us?
The stars emerge and practice their twinkling.

Runway Rejection
They call themselves video vixens. Aspiring Giselles and Ugbads who appear in hip-hop oriented music performances on YouTube and such. Not necessarily pegged as potential contestants for an episode of "America's Next Top Model" that's for sure, but they have their hopes and dreams just the same as everyone else.
Most fade quietly into obscurity. These "also-rans" are easy to spot. Too anxiously seductive and far too lacking in talent to successfully pull it off. I provide them a second opportunity to achieve the fame they so desperately seek. Another chance to make headline news, if you will.
Albeit posthumously.

The Inheritance
Mom left me one thing when she died: a VHS in a shoebox. What kind of mother leaves her child a worthless heap of trash like that? I thought she loved me.
Dutifully, I hunted down a working VCR at the library.
>>Play<<
Pixelated footage: Mom looking down the camera. She’s unhappy, scared even, and holding a cardboard sign:
Your Family (hit rewind)
Then nothing. Six hours of black screen. I wrenched the volume. Mom breathing. And … whispers? The tape ended.
No, this can’t be all. Look again.
>>Rewind<<
That’s when I saw them. Monstrous faces in the dark.

A Modern Loom
Chloe rests upon a velveted stool, painting a plastic band black with her brush. As the years pass, the brush runs gradually dry of the metallic ink, leaving static lines on body and mind.
Lacey weeps at her table, fingers raw from spinning fate into the first reel of the cartridge. Within the black box, life will soon roll onward - unknowable, inescapable.
In the corner, Anna stirs the ashes in her metal bin, surrounded by soon to be spent tapes, each next for the fire. Some have run for decades, others only minutes. Would that she could rewind them.

I still have no clue what it’s a retelling of. Which is embarrassing as I was a history major and think I should know.

It's The Fates, Pel. Really more of a myth than factual history, so you can be excused for not knowing.

Ahh, were they the three witches who shared an eye in Hercules? An excellent and deserving story.

Ahh, were they the three witches who shared an eye in Hercules? An excellent and deserving story. That’s the Gray Sisters, Pel. Different trio, although they are often confused with the Fates (who controlled the destiny of humankind) due to the fact that’s there’s three of them each time and all are often depicted as old crones.

With thread, loom, shears. Isn't one generally old, one mother-aged, one young? Or am I confusing that with three others? Meh.

No, I think you're right but The Fates ARE sometimes all depicted as crones, whereas the Gray Sisters who shared one eye and one tooth were decidedly old biddies, which is where the confusion comes in I think. Regardless, Caulder's tale was mythically epic, in every sense of the word.
