California Dreaming
She hoped to hitch to San Francisco and almost reached Palm Springs when the girls in the hooptie stopped. They were friendly and since San Francisco was hours away, suggested she spend the night with them at their retreat. Get an early start the following morning.
The vista grew more desolate with every mile, but she was delighted with the company. They sang, ate sandwiches and drank red wine. It was like a girl trip reunion.
"We're family," they told her upon reaching their destination. "Everyone is joined by love here and once you meet Charlie well, you'll never want to leave!"

Moonrise
They say the moon was once part of Earth, born of a cataclysmic collision. They say the moon was once no bigger than a thumbnail. The ancient vids show people playing in gentle tides, riding boards along curls of water, building castles in the sand. This does not compute. To us, the ocean is a quick death.
We ran to high ground, believing mountaintops meant survival. Funny.
The moon I know fills the horizon, a constant half-disk, so close we count her craters instead of stars. They say nothing will save us when she arrives to kiss her long-lost Mother.

It's all I can do to try to keep up with you.  And ... I couldn't even figure out how to play until I read and studied your entries way back in the day. So anytime I sneak a spot on the podium, I'm like how did that happen? |
