He voiced the proposition during a game of chess, which he hated but only because he always lost. He never did manage to master the strategy of the Fool's Mate and fell for it every single time.

Our company thought the proposal a joke. I knew better. Harebrained ideas were his forte and I invariably went along. It was easier than arguing.

After our guests had departed, he broached the subject again. I had a premonition about this one, not necessarily to my detriment. I have learned to trust my instincts.
