Hi all, What are your picks for best Fantasy and SF books of 2021? We can have a separate list for horror, historical fiction, nonfiction, etc. : ) This link is Polygon's picks (Note: these were all released within the last year or so): www.polygon.com/22822439/best-fantasy-books-sci-fi-2021What is Bird's picks of 2021? (I have not read every book on Polygon's list, but they are all now on my to-read list!) These are the ones I've read that came out the past year that are excellent: - Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki
- Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon
- Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor
- Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
- <might add more later.... lol>

Oh, gosh, I want to read all of those! *sob* I read too slowly and tediously to have gotten to this year's releases. I'm still reading novels released years ago, thinking one day I'll catch up. I *own* A Master of Djinn by P. Djeli Clark, which came out this year, but I haven't gotten to it yet. So I have no idea if I'd add it to my list of "best 2021 books" or not. So this is a verbose post to say "I'm sad that I can't contribute to this list." But I appreciate learning of new titles to add to my far-future to-read list.

To be fair, I randomly pick books off my to-read list, and I had no idea Klara and the Sun came out this year until I read the article. LOL The other books I listed were given to me to read or it's one of my favorite authors and I devour their books as soon as they come out (putting everything on hold). Also, P. Djeli Clark is a freaking AMAZING author and I adore them. A Master of Djinn is next on my list.

I haven't read any on the list BUT I've heard of many and own some!
I have read the first book by Arkady Martine "A Memory Called Empire" which I enjoyed though it was different than I expected. I'd heard it was phenomenal and original and basically mind-blowing, and though I liked it I wouldn't call it revolutionary or anything. I do recommend it. There's some nice LGBTQ representation in it, too.
I also own The Gilded Wolves (the third book, The Bronzed Beast, in the series is on the list) and want to read it soon. I've been making my way through my TBR list at a good pace so I should get to it soon.
I've also heard really good things about Black Water Sister, too. It's on my list.

And thats why you limit your to-read list.
I am usually way behind what most of you read, so I can't really contribute. Plus I kinda read from my own picks. There are some for next year Im told are great. Murderbot books two through 5(?), Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire, The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal (maybe).
