Unexpected Guest
The flames crackled to life before him. The room lit only by dancing shadows coming from the fireplace. The whiskey burned but only slightly as it slid down his throat, his mind as consumed by the flames as the log he just added. Closing his eyes as the memories once more washed over the flames, darkening the deepest corners of his memories. She’s gone! His thoughts whispered, be silent, be still and dream of what might have been. The siren in his head was an unexpected guest, whispering, tormenting, grating, consuming his soul. The memories burrowing deeper still.

Liam's Date
The doorbell rang. It could only be them, the one that, in his youth, had been divined long ago by the fortune teller. At last, the day she predicted had arrived. Liam opened the door to a black-haired beauty standing outside. He smiled. "Punctual, as should be expected. Would you like tea?" "Tea? My, I'm not usually greeted so warmly." His guest seated herself across from him, cross-legged. "I hope you know this changes nothing." "Of course." "Curious. How did you know?" "I thought Death knew all things? I asked the teller, so I could be ready. And I am." |
