I've used Duotrope for years. Yes I have a subscription. It's fairly cheap and yields fantastic results. I'm an inherently lazy person, I'm not going to spend hours googling individual markets or magazines and combing through their websites looking for submission guidelines. You can search genre, length of work, amount of pay and other parameters to narrow down the market results. I've submitted to many places thanks to Duotrope and been published (short story). You can also save favorite sites and keep track of where/when you've submitted a work and what/when you've heard from them. duotrope.com/

Wow this looks super useful, thanks, bookmarked. I've often trawled through the Writer's Handbook editions but I can't say I wouldn't pay to make that easier!

I loved Duotrope before it went subscription-based. So frustrating. Anyway, as a free alternative (not as pretty or sleek, but functional), there's The Submission Grinder.
