The Grand Illusion
Beware the tilting floor which challenges the laws of balance. Be cautious when navigating the mystifying Hall of Mirrors that confuse and bewilder. But I say too much already. To reveal more would spoil the waiting escapade. However, please note that logic and rationale are redundant here. Best rely upon instinct and intuition.
Can you maneuver your way through this disorienting maze?
Will you reach the turnstile at the end of the amusement park labyrinth?
Admission is free, so what do you have to lose?
I invite everyone to accept this challenge and experience the thrill that is my House of Fun.

Absurd“That’s life!” Many say to cruelty and suffering, and who am I to argue the point. To own the truth, life can and often is precisely that. But the question must be considered: is this of necessity? Perhaps not, at least not for some – In its face we laugh and take joy for it’s all absurd and ridiculous. The round and round and round we go on the merry-go-round once more. One giant amusement park where we embrace the absurd, and relishing the ridiculous, the hilarity of all our stupidity. Here, we need never suffer, not even our own misery.

Doomed Afternoon
Rena stands frozen. Arcade buzzers, joyful screams from the rollercoasters, and excited chatter encompass her. The scent of sugary confections tickles her nose. Heart pounding. Palms sweating. I don’t want to do this. She desperately wants to be like the people surrounding her. Happy. Oblivious.
But that isn’t her fate. Fingers brush the syringe hidden within her jacket. It will be quick and quiet. Her mark in sight. One jab and he'd fall, a heart attack to observers. No choice. The debt must be paid.
Through fabric and into skin. Compress the plunger. Done.
Different screams follow in her wake.

The Grave
Here you lie.
Impossibly still.
We both ran too fast for each other, and yet you made it. Just beside me.
Just so impossibly still beside me.
How could this be? Did God run out of patience? Was the universe too stubborn to let one good thing slip past its unforgiving sight?
Remember the amusement park?
Remember the cloudless sky? The dancing of lights, and dancing of foolish drunks, as we sat on that oak bench? Our fingers tangled in each other's?
Smiling. Wishing.
Wishing for more time. Time we could spend forever. In this moment. In the amusement park.

MAN IN THE MIRROR
That man in my mirror is doing just fine
His must be a life of galas and wine
Surely his days are full and his evenings are blessed
His home is a mansion that looms over the rest
But crack open the door and peer within
He sits alone with his treasures from everywhere he has been
Tour his amusement park of grand trophies and fame
You will soon find his life lacking any testaments to love gained
He now sits unaccompanied by youth, his life’s regrets long lost to time
This man in my mirror is doing just fine

Little Pitchers
I can hear them downstairs, yelling, screaming at one another. I shut the door when it began again, but it does little to block violent sounds of love lost. An object crashed and shattered against a wall, sending a faint tremor even as far as my room on the upper level. I'm surprised that anything remained unbroken. I wait out their fresh quarrel with headphones secured over my ears, blasting music as loud as I can bear. I close my eyes, thinking of happier times, happier places. The amusement park of the mind is the only escape. My only escape.

Fun Day
The watch mother was looking forward to previewing the new amusement park. To check that its content was okay for older hatchlings.
I’ve heard so much of this planet. It’s few remaining creatures, living in the last habitable place on planet, so they thought.
First stop is a waking up ritual. Look at them, wasting water. Is that a mating ritual they’re performing? They don’t have hatchlings like us.
Second stop is food consumption. Family unit eats together; Great Ancestors! They burn their food before eating it. Hope I don’t get sick. Why did the male and female touch faces?
