VOTING IS CLOSED For Fiction entries, please proceed to the FICTION FORUM, first door on your left. For poetry entries, the POETRY FORUM is just across the corridor on your right. Virtual desserts, drinks, and lounging chairs are available for your enjoyment while you critique the entries. Just mind the extradimensional rift that opened in the rug; a team is scheduled to stitch it shut tomorrow.
Here are the Voting Rules to keep in mind: Voting is open to all Legendfirians! You are REQUIRED to vote on every entry in the division(s) you entered.
Unless excused for serious reasons, you must vote on all entries. You will receive reminders of this requirement 1 week, 3 days, and 1 day prior to the end of the voting period. If you do not vote on ALL entries, your entry will be disqualified.
Schedule: Voting closes, Tuesday, 7 September, 11:59 pm US Central
Please follow these steps:
1. Critique each entry according to the following questions. Answer them as thoroughly as possible. Two sentences minimum per question. The goal is to help the author improve their craft. NOTE: voters who leave one-liner critiques to justify their vote will receive warnings according to our warning system.
* Technical writing elements: Which elements were technically sound in this entry? What still needs work? * Artistic elements: What appealed to me in this entry? What might benefit from revision? * Prompt: How well does this entry relate to the prompt?
2. Assign each area a numerical value: Rate each entry from 1 to 5, with five being the most favorable.
3. Add your scores and divide by 3 to get an average score. For example: 3.5 + 3 + 4 = 3.5 (The contest host will collect all the averaged scores for each entry and tally the overall average to determine the winners.)
* You may vote for yourself to maintain your anonymity. This vote will not count toward the final score.
* All entries must have the same number of votes for each vote to count. For example, if over half the entries receive 7 votes, we will set the final vote requirement to 7 votes per entry.
First Place winners of each category will receive a $10 gift certificate to Amazon or cash via PayPal.
100 hard honor points for all entrants, upon submitting their entry
An additional 250 hard honor points for first place winners, for a total of 350. Plus, an edit an edit, simple cover, and simple e-book format of a short story, essay, or collection of poetry up to 3500 words, by ScienceGirl.
An additional 150 hard honor points for all other place winners, for a total of 250
Optional publication in the 2021 issue of the Compendium
(Contestants must edit their Honor Points themselves within their profile settings)
BEST OF LUCK, CONTESTANTS!

Here we go, folks! The entries have been posted! There were a lot of them, so if I missed posting yours, pleased send me a private message. --> Lastly, there was one glorious nonfiction entry. I will contact the author, and see if they want to post it for regular critiques. Otherwise, it wins it's division by default. Edit: Also, if you submitted, remember to give yourself 100 Hard Honor Points (per division) for submitting!

So the author of our single nonfiction entry has requested I post their entry like the others. It is HERE IN THE NONFICTION FORUM. Bird is seeking feedback from anyone willing to give it. Thanks, Bird, for giving Nonfiction some love! Remember to take your winning honor points, and I'll have your badge shortly.

Oof, I'm gonna have to push it. We ended up scheduling an impromptu vacay right in the middle of the voting period. I'll do my best to keep up and get all my critiques in. If all else fails, I'll withdraw my entries.

AND, if necessary, I say put it to a vote…..though I very seriously doubt that would be necessary.

I obviously have to focus on the entries in the Fiction and Poetry forums first, but have every intention of taking at least a peek at Bird's NonFiction entry and offering what comments I'm able to put together in a coherent fashion. Congratulations on the win, Bird, and for showing us all that NonFiction is something we should all tackle if only as an opportunity to stretch our writing abilities. I very much look forward to reading the entry, although it will doubtless be a couple of days yet. I'm so glad it was included in the challenge.

I'm new to this and still figuring out how it works - when voting and putting in our critiques, do we reply to each submission, or send a message to you, Raven?

If you want, you can wait and see how others are doing it. No worries! Ask as many questions as you want. We're here to help!

I'm currently traveling, so my availability is spotty. Bad timing, traveling in the middle of a contest. Ack! Ala's reply is spot-on. Just hit the reply button, and you're good to go.) I'm home again and settled. Hoping I can get all the rest of these entries critiqued in time. The clock is ticking!

Question: Is it okay to have a contest submission edited by a professional editor before submitting?
