Erring in Love
The temple stood upon the highest peak, its ancient walls crumbling, long-abandoned. After an arduous climb up the mountainside, breathless, he rubbed his aching limbs. Thin mist hung in the air as he surveyed the grounds.
The top tier of the building held the silhouette of his prize in its errant cracks, overgrown with vegetation. Unexpected, but he steeled himself, mustering the last of his energy. Anything for her.
The final stretch, he plucked the orchid and held it fast.
A stone gave underfoot, sending him crashing down the cobbled rooftops.
A cluster of yellow orchids below became his grave.

Lest We Forget
He swept sable hair from his domed forehead.
"Lest we forget...this orchid in remembrance of our exotic romance."
He placed the flower on the marble-topped vanity and removed from his pocket a rolled parchment, secured with crimson ribbons stolen from her saffron curls.
"Lest we forget...this verse is a tribute to desire."
He yearned to crush the purple blossom but instead, opened a small ebony box. With infinite care, he filled the dual hollows of its satin-lined interior with twin spheres, brilliant in detached beauty as green beryl.
"These I carry with me so we may gaze eternally into each other's eyes...lest we forget."
