Why Aliens Come Here
“Balephom, do you like these creatures?”
“They have a unique perspective on life, Malpar.”
“They are a mockery of life. Their perceived greatness adorns their crownless heads.”
“They are the second intelligence that didn’t go crazy, learning they weren’t alone in the universe.”
“So?”
“They think outside the circle. They hide our probes, deny the truth, discredit the reputations of all who saw or recorded us. Weather balloons was a funny excuse.”
“Yes, but many of those idiots believed that? Why protect them?”
“Protect! Stars no. They are dangerous! We either understand why they do this, or we destroy them.”

Soul Encounter
From across the Abbey, they initially regarded each other with much solemnity.
"The reports of your regal bearing were certainly not exaggerated."
"Nor those of your exceptional beauty."
Compliments were silently acknowledged.
"I was a victim."
"You were a threat."
"At worse, I was tricked."
"At best, you were naive."
A momentary pause.
"I was possessed of a legitimate claim."
"And in my possession was the love of the people."
Yet another momentary pause.
"You wanted my head on a spike."
"You were the cause of a rebellion desirous to leave me crownless, immoral whore!"
"Barren husk of a woman without issue!"
Elizabeth deeply sighed. "Rest in peace, cousin."
Mary nodded graciously in response. "And you."

Pride Before the Fall
I thought of how I had clawed my way to the top for these people; every drop of blood spilled, every lingering pain evidenced by my past trials. I thought of the countless comrades I lost to get here, who ushered me into this position I held over the land. Because I was -- I am -- their only chance.
As I sit clinging to the throne I had earned through my own sheer perseverance, I can hear the people outside, enraged. Hammering on the well-sealed doors leading to my audience chamber.
All my work, and I would be... crownless, once again.
