Styx and Stones
Mother taught, "If you fall into the river, follow the bubbles to the surface or be lost forever." She stitched a gold coin into my clothing "just in case". Knowing one day I would fall. Disembodied voices beg me to dive into the sapphire waters. The torrent glows with the light of trapped souls.
"Only you, daughter of Hades, can save us," they implore. "Free us!"
Mother says they lie. “They earned their fate long ago.”
But I see a face through the glassy waves. My reflection? No. She screams, "Sister, please!" And I know. The one lying was Mother.

A Midwinter Rendezvous
How I miss igniting your fire,
turning your knobs.
Increasing the heat you radiate,
only makes me salivate.
The Winter Wizard's cursed storms
had you buried at the tail end of the cave. I was unable to breach
the wall of obstacles.
Warm cover for cold nights protection
Unfortunately, didn’t prevent formation of rusts stubble
Squeaky clean soon will be, with foaming bubbles
Loves blue flame
makes the juices sizzle
and melts the icy dame
You ask if I feel guilty,
it’s nothing egregious for me to get over.
I’ll get us both cleaned up
before the family gets home.

Shattered
Since the beginning of recorded history, or maybe even before, the bubble had floated, unnoticed and unseen. A sphere of exquisite reflective rainbows, no living thing had ever remarked upon its beauty or marveled at its elegance. But the bubble paid this no mind. It was desirous of neither flattery nor acceptance.
When it finally made its descent, playfully toying with gravity, it was gracious in defeat.
Contact, airy light with unyielding ground, obliterated the fragile arrangement, leaving naught behind.
And when the time of siesta was over, there was no trace. Nothing remained.
The delicate daydream died as it had lived.
In obscurity.

Leviathan
She had always considered water flimsy, delicate, insubstantial. But the water was thick as syrup in her nostrils, a brutal fist in the back of her throat. Its touch in her lungs burned like fire. The weight of the water’s body pressed her to the mud. Her fists pummeled the river. The current mocked her, roaring. Its arms rolled her about, a leviathan churning her in a death-roll. At last, it spit her out.
She circled in a slow eddy. Bubbles rose from her mouth. Outside herself, she watched them wobble to the surface and burst. Releasing her final breath.
