It feels wonderful and strange to by typing my intro on Legendfire once again. I was a moderator on the old site and desperately missed the community.
Welcome back from the Ashes!
I'm a relatively normal and boring person. Recently I've realized my list of hobbies is seriously lacking. That's because most of my time is devoured by my two daughters (ages 2 and 7) and writing. Any free time goes to either chilling on the couch binge watching something stupid, or writing. Lately, it's been a lot of binge watching and a small amount of the other thing.
My genres are YA fantasy, paranormal/horror, and speculative fiction. I enjoy science fiction, but only the soft stuff. My mind turns to mush reading hard sci/fi though I secretly wish I could love it. I enjoy reading anything with a mystery attached...usually a mystery involving something strange and unnatural. I hate reading real life drama, though I love watching it in shows.
Before I was a mother, I did a ton of theater. Both on and off stage. If I went back, I'd want to do backstage mostly. Acting is less appealing that in once was, it doesn't hold the same luster. I have a degree in Theater and Performance Studies from UC Berkeley...something I often forget. But it happened. And I loved it at the time. Then I had to make a choice, pursue an MFA or motherhood. I was edging 26 and knew I wanted a family. Soon. And I knew MFA programs were typically 3 years long. So, I said good-bye to that life and became a mom. Which I adore and do not regret one bit.
I also worked for a long time with animals at the SPCA as a behavior specialist. So if you have any questions about positive reinforcement, learning theory, or wanna talk about how awesome Ken Ramirez is, feel free to message me.
Ha, I know you've been working your tail off, both with family and with the novel. Even when we're not actively writing, writers are usually thinking through problems with their mss, and that still counts. Am I right? Non-writers may never understand that, but it's true!
Ah! I missed welcoming you, last night. I'm sorry! I've loved getting to know you, Ala. From what little I've gathered from you and heard from others in our little friend group, you seem like an excellent mother, the sort that I'd like to be if I ever became one (low on my priorities, rn). It's really cool to learn that you did theater! I loved theater in high school myself, but there wasn't much of a theater at my college outside of music theater and as a band kid, I didn't think I could handle being in choir and voice lessons and music theater on top of all that.
I totally feel you in the fantasy/sci-fi thing. I FEEL like I should just LOVE Science Fiction and there are some Sci-Fi (though mostly science fantasy) things that I HAVE fallen in love with, but, mostly, it's fantasy and magic that does it for me.
Alatariel: My first time really looking at them all, and I agree! So good!

FoxxGlove: Ack....hate it when I've checked and double checked and even triple checked to make sure all is good, only to find out I submitted an entry that has errors. ACK......

Alatariel: Always! No matter how many time I read through mine, there will always be something someone picks up on that I missed

pelwrath: I have learned to accept that I’ll have errors, it’s a given. Only do my best to minimize the number of errors.

Mazulla: Same here! Why is it we only notice these things once they're submitted?!

Alatariel: Honestly if it's something small I won't take off points because we're all human.

FoxxGlove: Going to adopt the same policy, Alatariel. Such wise words.

pelwrath: It's been a few weeks but I had an idea for a 100-word story, and posted.

Mazulla: Your 100 word entry is great, Pelwrath. I don't have any ideas nailed down yet. I seem to always think on it a few days and sometimes don't post til the last day.

pelwrath: Mazulla, thank you for your kind words. In truth, I didn’t think I’d have a story for ‘crisp’, that I’d like. While cleaning the windows and screens for winter, the idea came to me. The day was a very cloudy one but for a few minutes the sun did shine.

Mazulla: When you're trying to put together some critiques, but your 80-90lb dog keeps throwing himself in your lap... And keeps looking at me and smiling. You can see this goof here: i.imgur.com/8UvQpbD.jpg?1

Alatariel: OMG that picture Mazulla! I'm dying
Oct 18, 2021 13:09:04 GMT -6
Mazulla: Distracting, isn't it? Haha! He makes it so hard to ignore him.

pelwrath: Don’t know if he’s laughing or barring his teeth to protect the computer.
Oct 18, 2021 20:04:57 GMT -6
Mazulla: Oh, he's definitely being a goof! It's a funny attention-seeking maneuver. Quite dramatic about it, too, always throwing his head back to show those pearly whites.
