INTO THE DARK
“… he gave his life serving the empire he loved … our deepest condolences…,” says the letter.
She tears the paper in two, slowly. It is the sound of her heart breaking. Gone. He is gone? She cannot fathom the words. A chasm opens within, a darkness of anguish that has no far shore; her sorrow pours into an emptiness tears can never fill.
Fists clench torn paper. No. She can bridge the chasm, plumb the ancient art she laid aside at his request and fill her world again with the light of his presence.
She just needs a fresh body.

I wrote one for this but hadn't gotten around to editing and posting it. I need to get back into doing these challenges as I haven't for a couple of them now.

Here's the one I didn't post.
I’m surrounded by a big field. I’d been told a tear in the universe is somewhere around here. I honestly don’t know why I’m here because it sounded stupid. The smug grin which followed his words made it hard to believe however, he convinced me it was the truth.
I sighed and continued to search for anything out of the ordinary. Nothing.
“What’s taking you so long?”
“This field, it’s huge.”
“If it helps, you’ve found the tear in the universe already.”
“What?”
“This field doesn’t exist, you know. It’s my universe and I do what I like in it.”
