A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words
Ever seen a painting, drawing, or even a photo of something and suddenly had ideas start springing, unbidden, into your mind because of it?
Join the club.
Have you ever gleaned an idea for an entire novel from just one single picture?
Welcome to my challenge! Muhahahaha! This is how it goes:
FIRSTLY: Find a picture, preferably not one that is already associated with a story or stories, like the posters for Dragonlance, for example, or a map that's already inside a published novel. It might be something you spot walking past an art gallery, or some ten dollar el-cheapo thing you might happen to find at your nearest $2 store (it has happened to me, believe it!). Understand, I'm not excluding using things like posters for other stories for this, but it is required for this that you write something original with that inspiration, not simply a fanfic, or some such thing.
SECONDLY: Create an original 50-word thumbnail plot from the picture you have chosen. Include this plot in your post. Then, write a scene for the new story you've created. It can be any scene, whether an opening scene for the story, the end, or something in the middle. You might not know where it would go, but just write it, and that's fine. My point is that it doesn't have to be an opening, just a scene that's hopefully interesting.
THIRDLY: A brief but good description of the picture you chose, which should be placed at the top of the post, above the plot.
So, a post should go Picture Description, Thumbnail Plot, then Scene Extract under them both. I hope that's not too confusing. And I'm sure it's easier than it sounds. ^_^
Reward: Earn a maximum of 10 Honor Points based on your excerpt's word count.
100 words or less = 10 Easy Points
101-300 words = 10 Medium Points
301-500 words = 10 Hard Points
Have fun!
