Hey, hey, all poetry-loving Legendfirians!
(Poetry-curious or poetry-nervous? This invitation is for you too!)
We are excited to announce a new poem-related activity that will launch on Friday, July 12, at 8 pm US Central and take place every Friday thereafter -- or as long as there's interest.
>>DISCUSSIONS FOR THIS ACTIVITY ARE NOW LOCATED IN THE LITERATURE DISCUSSION FORUM<<
"Read poetry every day of your life. Poetry is good because it flexes muscles you don’t use often enough. Poetry expands the senses and keeps them in prime condition." - Ray Bradbury

How did this idea spring into existence?
At the end of April, during the Poetry Gala, we LF attendees discussed hosting weekly poetry discussions in our Discord server. Members voted in a poll and Friday evenings suited most of the voters, SO! Read on, Poetry Lovers.
What is the weekly poetry party and how will it work?
1. Participants must sign up to receive the Poem-a-Day from Poets.org via their email. The link to do this is FOUND HERE. It's free and very easy. This way, we all have the same poems in hand.
2. We ACTUALLY READ the poems emailed to us. A poem takes just a couple minutes each day, if that.
- The poems sent to us Saturday-Friday are the ones up for discussion each Friday night. If you want to make sure which poems are up this week, check the pinned post at the top of the #poetrycorner channel: current titles will be listed.
- Whaleworkforfood's most recent contributions to LF's Poem of the Day thread (FOUND HERE) are also options for discussion. Be sure to check them out too (along with the art paired with the poems, which makes the experience all the more powerful). If any new ones are available in the appropriate week, these too will be listed in the pinned post.
4. Let's see if 1 hour of discussions is comfortable for folks.
5. Typed discussions on the listed poems may continue throughout the week in the #poetrycorner channel. Because I doubt we can cover everything on Friday.
Please note:
No one is required to speak in voice chat. Participate according to your comfort level. Listening in without a mic turned on is perfectly acceptable and encouraged. Those of us in voice chat will read your thoughts and responses typed in the #poetrycorner channel and comment upon them.
No one is required to have full understanding of poetry or the poems we're discussing. Just come and exchange reader reactions, have a cup of tea, and enjoy the weirdness.
Notes on Conduct:
Please keep discussions on topic.
Agree to disagree. If someone voices an interpretation different from yours, keep an open mind and remain civil. The beauty of poetry is its versatility and openness to personal experience.
Arguing and flaming will not be tolerated. Repeat offenders will be banned from the Poetry channels.
Please respect and make use of gender identity and pronoun requests.
All of LF's forum rules apply on our Discord, so bring your best forum behavior.
Questions?
If you have any questions, please post them here. We really are making this up as we go. So any confusion or concern is understandable. If you're not familiar with Discord, just go bump around in there for a bit. It's fairly easy to learn. But if you have questions about how it functions, ask a specific question and I can reply with screenshots.
