Sundrinker havekrillwhaletravel and other poetry lovers who have voiced interest! At the end of April, during the Poetry Gala, we discussed hosting weekly poetry discussions in our Discord server. While we can discuss the week's poems via type chat at any time throughout the week, we do need to determine what day and time to host the voice chat discussion. That will be difficult, given our time zone differences. Therefore the poll. Please let your opinion be known and click the options that suit you best. In addition to the poll, please post below with your time zone, plus or minus GMT. ============================ How might this group activity work? * Participants would sign up to receive the Poem-a-Day from Poets.org via their email. FOUND HERE * Any and all of the previous week's poems would be up for discussion in the Discord #poetrycorner channel and the Poetry Reading voice chat channel. * Whale's recent contributions to LF's Poem of the Day thread (FOUND HERE) are also options for discussion. * The next week, we would move on to discussions of the next week's poems.
Any questions or ideas related to this activity?

This is a great idea! Sign me up!
I'm in GMT+8. I'll definitely show up for the text discussions, and I'll try my best to join the video discussions (barring any time zone wonkiness).

I'm in GMT-6. Probably be around mostly for a text discussion, unless I'm feeling super up to voice chat at that time.

I would have loved to participate for unfortunately the timing isn't great for me at this point.I'd like to hop in eventually though.
My time zone is GMT-04.
Would love to paricipate in VC.

I’m EST but I can hear with my headset but for some reason my mic doesn’t send even though Discord says it’s working. I work a M-F 2nd shift, but otherwise would be happy to participate.

Three days until this poll closes. Any other thoughts, options, votes?

Okay, the poll is closed and the interested parties have voted. Looks like Friday night wins. First things first --> decide on a general time to start discussions, voice or just type chat. If we meet up at 8:00 pm US Central, that sets it at 9 pm for the Eastern US and 6 pm for the West Coast, and about 8 am Saturday for havekrillwhaletravel . (I doubt I calculated that correctly, but is it close? Sorta?) Or move it to 9:00 pm US Central? Oh, man, this is messing with my crash-and-drool-on-myself time. Second --> I'll post an announcement with details. And make a badge. We need a badge for this! Third --> I need a co-host. --> There's a reason that I rarely get the chance to spend much time at LF on the weekends. Friday through Sunday are usually jammed with family/spouse stuff and joyous homeowner crap. So! Perhaps one of the folks who voted for Friday evening will volunteer to get things going when I cannot make it on time? (I have no idea who you are, so please post below or hit me up via PM.) A co-host is especially important b/c this activity is probably going to launch at the worst possible time -- right before I leave for a week of vacation without my laptop. Last week of June, I will be off-planet, drifting through the mountains of the moon. And the Friday right after that, July 5, I will be caravaning across the post-apocalyptic jungles of New Neptune with my nephews and in-laws. THEN I will be home for the rest of the summer (I think). IN SHORT, I can launch us this Friday, then someone else will need to lead the following two Fridays. Volunteers? ------------------------------------ EDIT: Today's poem is so weird-cool, by the way. Below the translation is the original Creole poem. What a strange looking language! Love it!

I'm looking forward to this!
I think I was one of the people who voted for Friday (I honestly can't remember), so I wouldn't mind co-hosting if nobody else throws their hat in the ring. I'm not exactly sure what that involves though. I wouldn't mind shifting the time we have the voice discussions if it's too inconvenient for everyone. Maybe we could play around with the time over the weeks until we find something that works for everyone?

Awesome! I'm not sure what hosting will involve either, honestly. Let's make it up as we go along. As long as folks show up to discuss the poems, even if it's only in type chat, and keep the dialog on track (mostly), then hosting might mean nothing more than breaking the ice with "what did ya'll think of this poem?" and letting the talk go where it may. I know there's a "thread" option in Discord, that pulls a focused discussion to the side of the main channel, but I can't remember how it works. That might be useful for this. Or it might complicate things, no idea.

Sounds good to me. I'm up for this Friday evening if everyone else is. Well, crap. Here I am prepping for a trip and wrapping up work stuff and missed the first Friday. With travels over the next 2 weeks, I won't even be available the next 2 Fridays either. How about we schedule the first meet-up for July 12. That way, we can have it in our brains to actually read the poems for that week, and I can post the announcement for the whole community the week of July 7. Ugh, sorry for the delay. Worst timing ever. And I did it to myself and dragged all of you through it. Huge apologies. That said, if you all get together and meet up before then, kudos to all of you for being awesome and making up for my bad timing.

I... also missed this. There was some weirdness with my part-time gig, and I ended up having to make up a buuunch of hours so I don't get kicked, and was not able to make it. So sorry! But I will definitely be around for the next one. I promise. Totally.
