Can't Keep A Good Man Down
The cemetery is home to Uncle Benjamin. He spends hours sifting through photographs and keepsakes left by mourners. Although he never learned to read, he makes a hobby of tracing calligraphy on headstones with a bony forefinger.
He's a decrepit old geezer with faded blue coveralls and ragged shirt. If you see him, keep your distance. He's not into personal hygiene and smells rather ripe, especially in the summer.
Every weekend or so, a couple of us suck it up, descend upon the graveyard and persuade him to return to his coffin so we can bury him all over again.

I, Fideal
I descend among cold water-weeds that still smell of you. I lured thousands into the lake with my song, all forgotten the moment their final breath escaped their lips, but you were different. I remembered you. You alone did not come willingly. Now I cannot unremember you. Your yellow bones crown the hill of bones, the centerpiece of my watery grotto. There, you haunt me, as once I haunted this benighted lakeshore, singing my irresistible song. I caress the hollows of your eyes, eyes that bewitched me. The song you sing is silent, and I am lured away from myself.

Chills
The doorway creates a halo of light as I lower my foot carefully on the next step. All I can think of is the black roofing tar and nails prank set up in my favorite Christmas movie. Three more steps down the concrete foundation is cold and that cold seeps through my slippers. Every horror movie I’ve watched replays in my head. Murky and musty, my nose is overwhelmed in the blackness. It even overpowers the teenager's dirty laundry in the basket in my hands. Where is that damned light switch?

Come with me, to the underworld where the smell of snow and pine dance on the wind. The chill keeps the dead docile, placated, but for us it’s invigorating. The blue of your fingertips are delicious, like sweet drops from the sky. Do you like it here? Shivers wrack your body, little tremors make your eyelashes flutter. Butterfly wings against your cheek. The sunshine doesn’t venture down here, I’m afraid. My body has no warmth for you. Soon you’ll be like me, frozen to the core. And then we’ll be together for all of time.
