A Father and His Princess
The illusion dissipated. Beelzebub was in his skull chair with embers for eyes. He sucked a bloody larva, into his mouth.
“Daughter, I indulge your whims and esoteric nature but why the deception for your pet human? I’ll mount his head for you.”
“Enough with the overprotective father routine. You liked that poem-The Raven, he recited.”
“You love him?”
“Love!? As if! I respect his splintered mind.Thanks for the subterfuge.” She threw her arms around his neck.
“His thinks I’m his cousin, Virginia, you’ll hardly notice.”
“Fine but do remember to break his heart, you’ve a reputation to up hold.”

In the oldest forests grow patches of green-gray that climb trees and clutch rocks, sprawl over the ground and cluster under fallen logs. One late summer evening they show spots of pulsing orange light: the omen for an evil night, where every farmer and merchant, cleric and scoundrel hide away. When it's darkest, the forest summons the dead. And when they go, they take the luck of the living with them. So, shutter the windows and snuff out the lights. Let pass the midnight storm of restless spirits and by morning all the trees will glow as if on fire.
