Suppose your story has reached a point where it touched a reader to the point that they want to write a fanfic about your work, would you be OK with it? The way I see it Fan Fiction has its downsides and its creepysides but I also see it as a way fans pay tribute to a work of fiction that they feel connected emotionally. The only lines I see if someone harass me to make their own interpritation of my characters canon.

Great question. I’ve read many things about fanfic on both sides. I also would seriously consider doing something that Robert Adams did with his Horse Clans series and that would be to have a Friends of Sundowners (or other) anthology.
First I do consider fanfic writing. You’re only using a setting from someone else. It’s like taking a premade rpg module and adapting it for your world. I’d be flattered if anyone did such with any of the stories I have or will write.

I guess I would be ok with it. I know some writers (George RR Martin and on and off with Ann Rice) have had issues with it, but on the other hand we have seen people take the franchise and done great things with it (elements of the Star Wars Expanded Universes, King Arthur and Robin Hood had plenty of stuff added on by essentially fan writers in latter retellings and so on).
Everyone starts somewhere, and alot of writers start off as fan fic writers. The reputation of them being poorly done is largely due to the age and experience of the writers when they published them. Plenty of official fic has been made that is horrible to read (When Steven Spielberg read the book Jaws while working on the film, the human characters were so unlikeable he kept rooting for the fish). And regardless of how you feel about the trilogy of films that with Raye and Finn in the Star Wars saga, the last film a let down.
I might make some cavoites like Bayonetta's creator did when it came to fan art (basically a lot of fan art depicted her in a demure or submissively when she is anything but, so asked them to draw accordingly). That said, I would fully expect the creatives to do their own thing.

I can't remember where I read it, I want to say that it was in On Writing by Stephen King, but don't quote me on that. I'm paraphrasing:
There are no new stories, our job is to take an old story and make it look new.
I write mostly Fantasy with a sprinkle of Sci-Fi and there isn't much out there that I can write that is not, at the very least, similar to something that someone else has done. Having said that, I don't think I'd have a problem with it as long as it is clearly labeled as fanfiction. I'd like to think that I would consider it an honor that my work inspired someone to put quill to parchment. Like you, I think the only way I'd have a problem with it is if it started to create canonical issues.
It's an interesting question.
