It's gotten worse and worse. I've been following dozens of authors all dealing with this same issue. Most in varying stages of their fight with Amazon. This author was the first one that I had followed that shared their results of their fight. Amazon claimed her name isn't trademarked. Like, WTF? We have to trademark our names now?

This is what I foretold.

This is why I am VEHEMENTLY AGAINST MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHMS (incorrectly terms "AI"). They Only Hurt Creative People. They are stealing our works for their training sets, they are stealing our names and identites, and they need shut down. This is utterly ridiculous, and there's been a LOT of authors complaining about this issue.

THIS THREAD IS ABOUT HOW WE CAN COLLECTIVELY COME TOGETHER TO COMBAT THIS. TO FORCE REGULATIONS TO STOP THIS. OKAY?

The Author's Guild has stepped up in this controversy to try to fight Amazon, so be sure to support that. But yes, be aware of this.

I recommend search for our names often on amazon to make sure there aren't false books that you never wrote there, and then report them if you see them. Because these "AI" generated books end up being unreadable, and it could harm your attempts to actually make a name for yourself.

Jane Friedman, an authors, describes how there are fraudulent books now that she never wrote that were generated by ChatGPT, and Amazon refuses to remove them because her "name isn't trademarked."

I wish there was something I could do about this, but I don't have the name or presence for it. Is there a way to get involved as a nobody who avoids social media?

There are very few social issues that I feel personally compelled to actively put my voice into, but this is one of them. I guess I feel like most issues have plenty of people on the right side of them, whereas I'm actually surprised by how many people who care about the arts think the, uh, machine-learning generative art trend is okay. I feel like plagiarism, creative laziness like letting a computer come up with ideas for you, and soulless machine-made media are being normalized and so many people are just accepting it.

Honestly, I'm not sure. Other than sign the petition maybe?

I've been watching social media on this to see if other people come up with ideas on how to fight back against this onslaught though. So if i see more ideas come through, I'll share them here.
