Not feeling good about this one. My story's both too scattered and too forceful in getting its point across. Less than a week left to fix it. It's only about halfway written, so at least there's space. Maybe I need to reread what I have from the beginning and see what it needs.
Haven't brainstormed for the poem yet, even though there are photographs I could write about. I don't know whether I'll have time for it.

I'm struggling quite a bit with the fiction entry. Changed the format three or four times already and still not totally happy with any of the results...or content come to that.
May have to pull out of this one, but at least I'm reasonably chuffed with the poem.

Unfortunately, I still haven't come up with any good ideas! I may have to withdraw for this competition unless I can come up with something in the next day or two at the latest. Honestly, that may be for the best - I may try to work on one of the other dozen or so unfinished projects I have instead, lol. Yea I got nothing, too. I've been under a lot of stress with the move and my creative brain kind of took a vacation. We've been here a little over a month and I FINALLY broke down and hired a company to come unpack/organize my entire house. They come Thursday and Friday of this week and after that I think my world will feel more settled. My mental state always mirrors my environment. So if things are cluttered, chaotic, disorganized then so is my brain. I mean, my home is ALWAYS a chaotic mess with three kids but the difference is that the other parts of the house are typically somewhat organized. Like the bathrooms, my bedroom, the office, my reading space...usually only the living room and kitchen are a mess and those are just toys/dishes/laundry. Normal house mess. But right now, every single space is just...untenable. Still living out of suitcases and boxes. So this story? Not happening. I'm so sad.  Even though we are spending a small fortune on this company, they have already been so supportive, kind, accessible, and understanding. Zero judgement when they came to assess the rooms and work that needed to be done. Lovely ladies. I already feel the burden starting to lift. Only a couple more days...then I can breathe again. |

Well, I made a small booboo. I double booked myself.
I chose the closing day for the submissions period as the same day I'm traveling. I wasn't going to take my laptop along, but now I must. Looks like I'll be posting your entries from a cabin in the mountains. Crossing my fingers that the internet is working. (If it's not, I will get word out and we'll close submissions when I get home a week later.)

So, I've got till tonight to get this story done. I'll try not to submit it in the last few minutes as I often do.
I procrastinated the last few days because the story was getting boring and a little uncomfortable, but then I did the thing I tend to do to make boring stories more interesting; can't say what. I guess it's almost done, yet it's proceeding so slowly. I really don't have high hopes for people liking it.
