Artifacts
Dr Reams thought the idea of mummy curses was laughable, the ploy of rich Victorians to sell tickets to sarcophagus openings. He had opened many ancient coffins in his forty-year tenure at the museum and none had released plagues of doom.
So his colleagues were astonished to find him one morning, posed like a pharaoh’s corpse on the floor, a golden scepter and a jeweled flail crossed upon his chest. The expression upon his face, locked by rigor mortis, was one of unutterable terror. On the examining table nearby lay an empty coffin and a tangle of a linen wrappings.

Coincidence or Consequence?
Father had crafted it for the children; a stick as tall as they were, where thin leather strips had been wrapped around the bark and securely topped with a plastic crystal. Children didn't require much to be contented.
The stick became a versatile centerpiece in their imaginary games, anything from a walking stick to a royal scepter. Today? A magic staff.
Playing until dusk, a call signaled the end.
The children groaned.
"I wish he was a... a... frog about now," said one with a flourish of the staff.
Imagine their surprise when a frog waited on the kitchen floor.
