Lucky me, Arcane Publications has tentatively accepted my stoy Charon's Gift for their end of year anthology provided I'm able to make the changes suggested.

Thank you for your submissions! The story I'm most interested in is Charon's Gift, I think it's a heartwarming story and perfect for the time of year the publication will be releasing in. I think it could be a great fit for the collection, especially given the timing with the holiday season and I might even want to have it at the very beginning of the book, but that said, I do have some concerns that would call for some substantial re-writes. Arcane would prefer to avoid the use of religious iconography or any pre-existing characters, everything else aside we are a young company and cannot risk potential law-suits or disenfranchising any particular religious group. That may sound incompatible with your work, but if you're willing to do some aesthetic overhauling I think the bones of your story are what really shine. If you wanted to rework this piece to not rely so heavily on real world myth and religious folklore and rather feature your own pantheon of original characters I think it has some real potential. It would require some substantial rewrites as I said but I would be really interested in seeing it develop into a completely original story! Let me know if you are interested and I can help you along the way, but also I understand if the connection to real world lore is fundamental to your vision for the piece and you decide not to publish with Arcane. I appreciate your submission, I hope to work with you more in the future!
May the winds of magic carry you ever onward,
Mad Madds

Thanks for the feedback, I'd be willing to make the changes you're looking for. I figure you would want me to remove God and all the mythological dieties and references to christmas. If there are others, please et me know what you're looking for. Since you're

Lets focus on Charon's Boat. Mid winter traditions are common all over the world, and in so many fantasy and sci-fi settings, it's something with a very broad reach and your story of a death god putting the whole world on hold to do something sweet for a change is a wonderful story. I know coming up with your own pantheon and everything is a big task but I think the piece will really benefit from it. Having to write the gods as characters, or build them up as symbols to an audience who hasn't met them before, will be a great opportunity to really dig into the story.
If you have other pieces you'd like to submit for Wizard Weekly or stand-alone publication let me know, but for Annum Arcanum I want to stay focused on this piece!]
Thanks,

Mad Madds,
Okay, new gods. I should be abke to use thosefrom my old D&D campaign and instead of Christmass, call it Years End Festival. It'll probably be longer, is their a target for me to be aware of?

The payment by word caps out at 5K words, generally I'd recommend between 2.5k and 7.5!
