Urban Oasis
She soars upward, riding the draft of a passing wind. She no longer needs sanctuary in order to heal. The wing is robust and at full strength once again.
In her wake, cashmere-soft pigeon feathers flutter and spiral in the breeze. The docility and delayed reaction to imminent danger displayed by her meek and gentle cousins has served her exceedingly well.
She does not look back at the collection of small white bones littered beneath the well-visited bird feeder. The carnage is already forgotten.
She knows no grief.
Experiences no regret.
It is not in her nature to do so.

The Things I do for my Necromancer's Degree
Sandra cursed as she thread the wire through the bones. Luckily her mother wasn’t present to hear. This was her third attempt to create a dog from bones. On her first try she had used the wrong wire and it had collapsed. The second she had channelled too much magic and it had imploded; she was still finding bone shards around her room. One final tug and the form was complete. A quick breath of magic, not too much, and the dog shook out it’s bones. She sighed and took a moment to admire her creation.
The head was backwards.

Fate
"The gods are mysterious. Cruel. This may not reveal the answers you desire," warned the old Seer. Beneath a white-painted face, his weary, dark eyes locked with mine. Forming an intricate headdress, a deer's skull rested atop his head, a flurry of ravens' feathers and draping leathers. "I must know my fate," I said, gaze held steady. And so he threw down the bones. "Glory in coming battles. Your lineage will carry on..." He studied the engraved bones. "In the form of a daughter. She will surpass even your glory. And you... You will join the gods before winter's end."
