I loved the graphic novels this show was based on so when I heard that there was going to be a live action adaptation, I was a little anxious. Given Netflix's history with live action adaptations. *looking at you Cowboy Bebop* Yet this series was a prime example of how to not only properly adapt something into live action but change a few things yet still keep the spirit of the original source material intact.
The character Morpheus is a complex individual. You'll feel sorry for him in the beginning. And hate him a little. Then cheer him on. He's not an easy character to like but I've found him intriguing as the series progress.

Yes, it is probably one of the better adaptations I've seen come out of Netflix, but then that's because Neil Gaiman partly wrote the script for it. (As in it was all run through him so he played a major role in its development since it is his work they're adapting). It's also very hard to watch. Reading the comics was easier because I could gloss over the really violent stuff that made me nauseated and could trigger flashbacks. The show doesn't veer away from depicting those scenes accurately to how they were in the comics, and watching something is far more visceral than reading it. I had to look away for a lot of one episode as it was just so horrific. (That diner episode. *shudders*) I absolutely love the characters, especially Death. I hope she returns. I'm still pissed off over Cowboy Bebop adaptation, it was horrific. This video accurately sums up exactly what I noticed and why I was so upset with it:

I haven't watched the adaptation yet, but I remember being so weirded out by the diner chapter in the comics. It felt so jarring and out-of-tone with the rest of the volume. Ugh, the visuals of the initial trailer and teasers put me off the whole thing and I've stayed away ever since. I know it's difficult to adapt anime into live-action, but the anime is such a slick, stylish show. It was so disappointing seeing them put out this blegh-looking adaptation.

Oh yeah the diner scene in the comic was......Something else. The series honestly hit it hard because the adaptation is in no way connected to the DC Universe, which I find a good thing.
If there's an episode that made me go yeesh it would be the episode that contained the scene with Rosemary and John. That one hit me on a personal level because I have run into an experience like that once.
