Quiet Time

On days when I am able to remain calm, they remove the shackles and chains and take me to the riverbank, where I'm allowed to sit unfettered and dabble my naked toes in the water for a little while.

Sometimes, I watch the clouds drifting overhead and sometimes, I just stare into the bright sun until I start to see pretty patterns dancing before my eyes.

More often though, I read a book. It doesn't matter which I choose since they all belong to me.

They tell me I have read each of them many times.

But I don't remember.
