The Slow March of Vengeance
You know how this story goes. The forest was once pristine, stretching along the shore of a pristine lake, filling pristine air with perfume of pine and rich, moist earth. Furred and feathered creatures lived in pristine balance, chasing, hiding, feeding on one another in the race to perpetuate.
Then they came, nudging at the edges, infiltrating the depths. Changing things. Changing everything.
The forest and the lake might have watched in helpless passivity as their end approached, but this was not the consensus. One night, under a smog-hazed moon, the trees nodded, and the lake crawled up its banks.
