Tempus Fugit
I think of the things I always intended to accomplish. Learn a foreign language. French or Russian, perhaps. Finish "War and Peace," started years ago. Watch "Gone With The Wind." Too late now. My usually accurate internal clock indicates one hour remains. So, I'm surprised to find myself no longer alone. I chafe my hands, upper arms. Skin cold. Clammy. "You're early," I say. "Not yet 8 o'clock," I say. And then realize it's daylight savings time. Spring forward...fall back. "Any last requests?" I shake my head. Only entitled to my lost 60 minutes. They are unable to give me that.

The Mark
She felt the cold emanating from the concrete, the stray gravel through her clothing. One hour, lying prone on a lonely rooftop. Her body protested its uncomfortable state. Between a motionless position and the stinging cold, stiff limbs threatened to fall asleep. Yet, Moscow, or Egypt, or countless other places had been far worse.
Luckily, the man she awaited kept a strict schedule.
Her vision was green as she watched the museum's entrance. Movement through the windows.
She readied herself: Barrel aimed. Target acquired in her scope. Breath slowed to a stop.
A steady exhale as she squeezed the trigger.

The Death House
An hour before I paid for my first crime, a murder. My last meal was fugu, a glass of Fillico Jewelry Water, Pâté de Foie Gras and for dessert, a bowl of strawberries and blueberries with whipped cream, delicious. I showered then dressed. The priest arrived.
“Bastet would you like to pray?”
“No thanks, I know what’s up. If God takes vengeance and kills them, is that murder or vengeance?”
“God is the ultimate judge, that would be a punishment.”
“Thank you.”
In the execution room, I whisper to the cute guard. “You’ll be my second life.”
