Old Times' Sake
We met Freshman Year. Friends who became kindred spirits obsessed with the paranormal. It was gratifying to associate with like-minded individuals open to esoteric theories. Otherwise, we were mocked as screwballs who, much like the White Queen, could imagine "six impossible things before breakfast."
It was autumn when we finally decided to visit the lake, intrigued by legend and eager to investigate for ourselves the fabled incidents. We each carried some personal item to be thrown into the water...one of the documented rituals.
Some of us still return every year to catch up.
And some of us never did leave.

There was no way to contain the bubbling excitement in his chest that kept his from settling. The excitement was almost too much and it had been far too long. To return to the treehouse with the friends who he once shared it with. Only this time nearly 15 years had elapsed and he would not only walk the forests where their imaginations roam with just them. But also with her. Sleep would be a must tonight, but tomorrow was a big day. Thee big day. If only it could be morning now. |

Every night the clothes scream. Not wordless or angry but a waterfall of words assembled from all the worlds' languages. Ze does not mind the screaming, it gives the world a solidity that breaks the silence of the quarantine. Outside the house, society slinks by in hushed whispers, most in masks, their steps a tide of despair. Each afternoon, Ze waves for approximately two hours at those who pass by. Directly before supper, Ze turns on zir computer, checks the silent message box, and resends the order for the vaccine, although ze knows only the clothes will ever reply. |

Do you remember? The tears running down his cheeks. No sound, only stark reminders of my betrayal. Glistening paths to an ending I never imagined.

Congrats, Foxxglove! Hehe, I read your entry as soon as you posted it, and it kinda felt like a brick hit me in the head. It was amazing, and that's when my brain froze up. Got total stage fright, cuz I was like, "I can't compete with that." LOL! Couldn't wait till this round was over so I could tell you. Well earned victory!
