This one's brighter. 'Twas fun to piddle with... Edit: Hey, I really like how this one looks shrunk down. Really mystical and cross-genre, which is the point. Yooooooo Okay that one is awesome. Hehe, thanks! I've been spending entirely too much time this week rounding up random images and textures and looking through all my brushes and mashing them together -- and not working on my novel. Definitely procrastinating. This is a good excuse, right? Right???

It's not technically procrastination if it's for a related field (Says I, the chronic procrastinator, so take that as you will LOL)

Raveneye, if you want to send me whatever cool image you make, I could play around with the text placement. I could get started on the interior as well. Any fractals yet? The formatting of the original stories shouldn't be too important; like, fonts don't need to be correct or even uniform because I'll be replacing all of that, if that helps the editing process.

Yeah, I'll send what I've got so far in a PM, and if that doesn't work, via email. Actually, is it okay if we keep all this in email? Better chance of large image files being sent properly.

So I log into LF after weeks of not paying it much attention, only to see this announcement. After a quick skim, I realize that my little weekly winner qualifies. Just how cool this is hasn't quite sunk in yet. Regardless, I'm totally psyched this is happening. Submission deadline noted!

That works. Also, uh, don't get your hopes up too much. I'm just an amateur and hobbyist, but I want to see what I can do.

That works. Also, uh, don't get your hopes up too much. I'm just an amateur and hobbyist, but I want to see what I can do. No worries at all! I've had zero training in graphic design, so we can muddle through. I did a Google search of literary magazine covers and have been studying layouts that are appealing and others that aren't. The best covers, IMO, are clean and uncluttered by text. The worst are way too text-heavy. We need to find fonts and a "LegendFire Compendium" layout that are the same for all the covers. Studying others' covers should help us with that. Cuz the cover, obviously, has to look professional if we expect it to attract non-Legendfirians. It's the interior formatting that I'm dreading. I wouldn't wish that task on my worst enemy, so I think I'll try to tackle that one and hope for the best. I will email you through LF's help address, probably Tuesday, since the rest of today and all day tomorrow are stuffed full of things that will keep me away from my computer.

I'm totally fine with doing the interior formatting. I was in fact looking forward to that part more, somehow. It's easy in InDesign since I just need to do set up the overall style and then apply it automatically to all the stories. That's something I could definitely handle and would like to handle. Please throw me the interior formatting.

It's just a lot to read through and apply.

If you want me to send the email somewhere else, just let me know.

Guessing you missed my post above? I'll quote myself here, since, yes, it would be amazing to have some fractals on the interior. I think it would be cool to use them as section breaks, one on the page announcing the contest entries, and one on the page announcing the 100 Weekly part. Here's what I said above: OMG. how did I miss that post. lol, ok. Yes, I can do this. I can do any pixel size honestly and make it look cool. I'll check out the style guide. Also, that second cover that is cross genre and looks steampunkish? That's freaking AMAZING.

I have Adobe's full professional suite, extensive experience with InDesign, and several self-published books and cover designs (the formatting more than the artwork) under my belt now--for myself and clients!!! Is a good side hustle if anyone wants to learn. I'm glad to teach all this stuff. Here for whatever you need.

Okay, after studying the covers of several literary journals, I redid the text on the Compendium cover. Here's the latest tinkering: Is it starting to look more professional? Are we getting close? I'm still not sure about the "Edited by" line. Nothing I tried balanced right. Ugh.....
