This was such a fun contest. Thanks for traveling down memory lane, everyone. I hope the journey was worth taking for each of you, maybe even cathartic and useful somehow. (I will have the badges posted first thing in the morning. I am simply too brain-dead at this hour to mess with the image editor.)

......um what?! I'm sorry but, what?
I'm gonna babble for a minute. I'm super shocked and really pleased but still super shocked that my entry was received so well. I've been having some serious writer's blues lately, doubting everything and having lots of negative mean voice tell me I suck and should just hide under a rock in shame because I suck so much. I wasn't even going to do this contest because everything in my head told me my experiences were boring and I could never write a memoir piece that anyone would care about. Then I did anyways, I wrote and I cried because I thought my writing was dry and stupid and worthless and horrible. And I sent it it anyways because I wanted this contest to succeed...I know non-fiction doesn't attract the same amount of enthusiasm and even though I figured my entry would bomb I still wanted to give this contest the chance it deserved.
And then people actually liked my entry. And they liked the way it was written and they felt something from it...
I'm just floored and humbled and shocked because that negative voice has been so loud lately.
So thanks to everyone who voted. This was a FANTASTIC contest and I'm sure the numbers were really close. Each entry was sparkling with honesty and polished prose. Well done everyone. And never listen to that negative voice. You don't suck. It sucks.

I certainly hope that this is a little bit of proof that your writing does not suck! That your efforts and hard work are accomplishing what it's supposed to. Gosh, that evil wicked horrible deadly lying voice. It's an exhausting mind-trip just to get it to shut up and write one more word to spite it. The struggle is very, very real. Bless you, friend.

Congratulations everyone! It was fun to read all the entries. I struggled a lot with doing the crits due to my major health issues, so it felt like a big accomplishment to get them all in. It helped that this was a smaller contest.
